Julio Ibarra (AmLight PI)
Julio E. Ibarra, PhD, is the Assistant Vice President for Technology Augmented Research at Florida International University (FIU). Dr. Ibarra is responsible for furthering the mission of the Center for Internet Augmented Research and Assessment (CIARA) – to contribute to the pace and the quality of research at FIU through the application of advanced Cyberinfrastructure. He is responsible for strategic planning and development of advanced research networking services, including the development and management of the AMPATH International Exchange Point for Research and Education networks. He is the Principal Investigator of multiple National Science Foundation International Research Networks Connection awards, involving the design and implementation of high-throughput international network connections to enhance U.S. e- science initiatives in Latin America, and the Caribbean.
Sérgio F. Novaes (SPRACE PI)
He is Full Professor of Physics at the São Paulo State University (Unesp). He obtained the B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from the University of São Paulo (USP) and he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley, USA). He was visiting researcher at the University of Wisconsin (Madison, USA), University of Valencia (Spain), and at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Chicago, USA). He started his scientific career as a theoretical physicist working on particle phenomenology and field theory. By the end of 90's, he became an experimental high energy physicist at the DZero Collaboration from Fermilab, and currently he is part of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) Collaboration from the European Organization for Nuclear Research (Cern). He is the leader of the CMS group in São Paulo and the Principal Investigator of Thematic Project from São Paulo Research Foundation (Fapesp) that supports the activities of the São Paulo Research and Analysis Center (SPRACE) since 2003. He and his team deployed the
GridUnesp, the first Campus Grid in Latin America which arose as a spin-off of the participation in the LHC experiment. He is now the Scientific Director of the Center for Scientific Computing from Unesp and has been the PI of several R&D projects associated to the private sector (Padtec, Intel, Huawei, etc.) which include an Intel Parallel Computing Center (IPCC) and a Center of Excellence in Machine Learning, and Huawei is supporting the development of Kytos, a new SDN Controller. He and his team have a partnership for more than a decade with Caltech which set the record of data transmission between the North and South Hemispheres three times during the bandwidth challenges at the SuperComputing conferences. He was member of the International Committee for Future Accelerators - ICFA (2005-2007), the Brazilian representative to the Particles and Fields Commission (C11) from the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics - IUPAP (2011-2017) and member of the Technical and Scientific Committee of the National Network for High Energy Physics - Renafae (since 2008). He led several outreach programs such as “Elementary Structure of Matter: A Chart in Every School", which distributed a chart to 25,000 Middle Schools in Brazil and the SPRACE Game translated to English and German. He coordinated several international agreements with USA (Madison, MIT, and TexasTech), United Kingdom (Edinburgh, Southampton, and Imperial College), and Portugal (IST, Lisbon). He was member of the Advisory Committee of São Paulo Research Foundation - Fapesp (1997-2000) and National Council for Scientific and Technological Development - CNPq (2009-2012), and the Scientific Coordinator (1990-1996) and Deputy Director (1996-1999) of the Institute of Theoretical Physics from Unesp.
Beraldo C. Leal (Kytos co-PI)
He has over 15 years of experience working in software development and UNIX like systems. Currently, he works as a
DevOPS Engineer with a great team at Sao Paulo State University (Unesp) that also work in close partnership with the Large Hydron Collider (LHC), the world's largest and most powerful particle collider, and is the most complex experimental facility ever built, and the largest single machine in the world. The LHC remains the latest addition to CERN’s accelerator complex. Also he is the Kytos SDN Platform's coordinator. During his Master's degree studies at USP he worked on a Pseudo File System inside Linux Kernel for network packets debugging. With this tool the system administrator it would be able to sniffer network packets and statistics without using libpcap or any user space tool other than cat, grep and tail. Currently he is more involved with the Software Defined Network (SDN) team, building software stack for high speed data transfers.
Renan Barbosa (Software Developer)
Currently works as a developer of the Kytos SDN platform and is finishing his master's degree in Computer Science at the University of Sao Paulo (IME-USP) in the area of networks and SDN. Graduated in Mathematics from the University of Vale do Sapucai (UNIVAS), and has a specialization in Technology and Management of Computer Networks. He had lectured in computer and networking courses at the Servico Nacional de Aprendizagem Industrial (SENAI-MG) for several years. Has MCTS and CCNA certifications.

He has a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from Federal University of Technology – Paraná (UTFPR) and he is Network Engineer at AmLight. He has extensive experience in the networking industry over the past 5 years, and currently, he is providing support for the operations and automation of AmLight's network and services. He got traditional professional networking certifications such as Juniper Networks Certified Internet Professional (JNCIP-SP), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), and Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP).
