Everybody coming to work at CERN for any period of less than 3 months and needing to go to France for any reasons are requested to have an official PROTOCOLE D'ACCUEIL document that they must keep on them with their passport at all times and show at the Users Office upon registering.
This document is prepared at CERN, then sent for approval to the Sub-Prefecture in Gex, France and then returned to CERN.
This Protocole d'accueil covers ONLY the duration of the stay in question. A new one must be requested for each new stay. However, we can also do it for one year if your stay does not exceed 90 days at one time.
For stays less than 8 days, we will not issue the protocole, but we can do just one for full year for stays not exceeding 90 days in one go.
Since it takes about 5 days to obtain the Protocole, please make sure to request it early enough to cms-invitation@cern.ch by sending:
Your birth date and place
Your work and home address
Arrival and departure dates
The Protocole can pick up the Protocole from the Secretariat upon arrival
Further information concerning the visas can be found at CERN Bulletin No 38:
